Maple Butter Delicacies
It is sometimes (or is it most of the time?) the small things which make certain meals memorable. That skosh of cinnamon powder sprinkled on your coffee; those few drops of lemon on your grilled salmon; that single teaspoon of vanilla mixed to the cream topping of your dessert; those few tablespoons of maple syrup on your waffles. It is the same with maple butter.
Maple butter, or maple cream, has a creamy and buttery consistency, perfect for use as a sweetener or a spread for breads and pastries. It has become one of the most favorite maple products, substituting it for pure butter because of its healthier components; being dairy-free, it is used by and is very much recommended for lactose intolerant individuals. You can use it as a spread for toasts, biscuits, muffins, scones, bagels, and cupcakes. Substituting it for the regular butter you use on pancakes, then pouring maple syrup over it sounds like it’s too much maple in one dish, but no, it can honestly be one of the most decadent breakfasts you will ever have.
Throw in some slices of bacon or baked ham on the side, plus slices of fruit, and the dish’s sumptuousness will climb up a couple more levels. You can also use maple butter with butternut squash and baked sweet potatoes. Its caramelized sweetness can make your apple pie even more delicious. Regular cinnamon toast is not so regular anymore with it, too, especially if enjoyed with coffee or tea whose flavors enhance the sweetness of maple. A dab of it can turn crepes with fruit fillings, sauteed apples, and toasted pecans into a much more delectable dessert.
To make maple butter, just cook pure maple syrup under high temperature, about 230 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, while stirring, let it cool down in room temperature until it reaches its smooth, buttery consistency. And voila! Maple butter that can make any dessert even more irresistible!
